How can we make airways safer? Let’s Beef up the penalty for false threats. (EDITORIAL)

Some 50 threats have been made since the first of the year, maybe more.  These threats are being posted on Twitter, and frankly, I find it disheartening that only 18 months is given to someone convicted of making a bomb threat.

The first I heard of these incidents was the threat made about two flights in Atlanta.  That one set had fighter jets scrambled to land the planes at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.  No one has been injured so far, but plenty are fuming about being delayed and re-screened due to these threats.

To the little fools hiding behind Twitter, and other social media sites, How DUMB do you really have to be to make these threats?  Your IP Address can be tracked at any time, and no matter how much you hit delete, it won’t delete from the archive. And No matter how much you say you want to take it back, you can’t.  So, your penalty should be a permanent restraining order preventing you from having social media, and lifetime probation, and if you get a social media account, aside from e-mail or phone for work purposes, you get back in the slammer.  That’s how it should be.

I can’t fathom how much inconvenience has been caused by the false threats.  I can fathom, though, how much frustration is going on with the passengers, flight crew, pilots, flight attendants, airline executives, Air Traffic Controllers, Agents of Law Enforcement, K-9 Dogs sniffing luggage, and even the prosecutor who wants to throw the book at them, but can’t.

To law enforcement, please catch these fools.  To the Judge on the bench, Lock ’em up and throw away the key.  And to anyone else thinking of doing the same thing these little fools are doing, DON’T!
