WASHINGTON D.C. (WHNT/CNN) — As dozens of police and rescue workers  converged outside the Capitol, a WHNT News 19 reporter on vacation with family witnessed the situation first hand.

WHNT reporter Al Whitaker reports watching the high-speed chase from the open-top tour bus he was traveling inside.

“We saw several police cars chasing a small black car, it turned in front on the Capitol our bus went the other direction,” Whitaker said on the phone Thursday afternoon. “Moments later we saw dozens of other police pouring into the area,” Whitaker added.

Whitaker said the group also witnessed a police car smash into a barrier during the chase, those reports were confirmed by other media accounts from the scene as well.

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said on Thursday that one person was injured in a shooting on Capitol Hill.
